かなしさ【悲しさ】

sadness; sorrow; grief; unhappiness; distress. [＝かなしみ]

●病気のわが子に何もしてやれなかった悲しさが, 彼女を宗教へ導いた. It was her sadness [grief] at having been unable to do anything for her sick child that made her turn to religion.

●学問[教育]のない悲しさで for want of education

・学歴のない悲しさで for lack of an academic career [background].

●悲しさのあまり in (the excess of) one's grief [sorrow].

●女に生まれたわが身の悲しさをこんなに悔いたことはなかった. I had never before felt such resentment at (the tragedy of) having been born a woman.

●飛べぬこの身の悲しさよ. Oh if only I could fly! | How it grieves me that I have no wings.
